Product introduction

A printed circuit board power relay is an electrical component used in electronic circuits to control high power loads. It serves as an electrically controlled switch that allows a low power control signal to switch on or off a higher power circuit. Power relays are commonly used in various applications where there is a need to control significant amounts of current.

The main components of a typical PCB power relay include
  • Coil : The relay coil is an electromagnet that generates a magnetic field when energized. It is designed to require low current to activate, making it suitable for control signals from microcontrollers or other electronic components.
  • Contacts : Power relays have one or more sets of contacts, which are switch terminals. When the coil is energized, the contacts change their position, allowing current to flow through the relay.
  • Actuator or Armature : The actuator is a moving part of the relay that is attracted to the coil when it is energized. When the actuator moves, it opens or closes the contacts, thus controlling the current flow.
  • Housing : The coil, contacts and actuator are enclosed within a housing that is mounted on a printed circuit board. The housing provides mechanical protection and keeps the internal components of the relay in place.

Printed circuit board power relays are commonly used in various applications such as home automation systems, industrial automation, power supply units, motor control circuits, lighting control and more. They are available in different configurations right upto multi pole multi throw relays, depending on the specific requirements of the circuit they are intended to control.
